Young footballers back cancer campaign

Gerrard has teamed up with the English Schools Football Association and charity The Garland Appeal to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

ESFA&#39s Check Your Kit campaign plans to send leaflets and posters to more than 14,000 secondary schools across the country, stressing the importance of checking regularly for testicular cancer.

It is being fronted by Millwall striker Neil Harris, who recently returned to first-team action after spending several months on the sidelines being treated for the disease.

Gerrard, a subsidiary of Old Mutual, has donated £200,000 to the campaign, which includes sponsorship of ESFA&#39s under-18 international programme and under-14 schools&#39 cup competition. The Garland Appeal is planning fund-raising activities, including a national testicular cancer awareness week next March.

Gerrard managing director Chris Moorsom says: “This campaign has the potential to save hundreds of young lives and, indeed, the lives of fathers too. If our support saves just one life, it will be worth it.”
