Yorkshire Building Society has appointed Richard Wells as its new risk general manager.
Wells joins from Lloyds Banking Group, where he was the risk director for its £345bn mortgage business. He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Commenting on the appointment, YBS chief executive Iain Cornish says: “The importance of effective risk management has been illustrated very clearly by the financial crisis and, as someone who has an extensive experience of risk management at a senior level in both commercial and retail banking environments, I know that he will be a valuable asset to the Society and I welcome Richard to the Yorkshire team.”
Last month, the building society appointed former Monetary Policy Committee member Kate Barker as a non-executive director.
YBS, the second largest building society in the UK, merged with Chelsea Building Society last December and currently has 178 branches and two million customers.
