Wood you believe it?

Royal London’s Gareth Evans sent a thank you to the Diary for flagging up Tom McPhail’s new blog.

He said: “Ever since reading the story, Steve Bee has been engaged in the new battle of the blogs with a golf shop owner in San Diego.”

The Diary did not understand what he meant until, clicking on the link enclosed in Evans’ email, which directed us to a San Diego website and, more specifically, a story about a man called Tom McPhail who owns an online golf shop.

In the article, McPhail is described as a “visionary” who had two things on his mind in the early 1990s – “Improving his golf game and making a buck in the nascent online world.”

Who knew McPhail was leading such a double life in the world of golf?
