Winterthur backs medal hopes

Winterthur Life is spons-oring four top athletes at this month&#39s Olympic Games in Sydney.

The British team members come from a range of sports. They include Denise Lewis, one of Britain&#39s top hopes for the gold medal in the heptathlon, having won bronze in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Sailing hope Ben Ainslie won a silver medal in Atlanta. He is world champion in the laser class and is looking for gold in Sydney.

Paul Palmer is a star of Britain&#39s swimming team, having won a silver medal in Atlanta.

Rower Greg Searle won gold in 1992 and bronze in 1996 and is in with a good chance of gold this year.

The sponsorship deal runs to the middle of next year and all four athletes will wear the Winterthur Life logo on their kit during and after the Olympics.

The company is hoping the deal will raise its profile in the UK and international arena.

Palmer will also be taking part in a charity swimathon as part of the Win-terthur Life UK team later this year.

Chief executive John Finan says: “It is very exciting to be the sponsors of these talented sportsmen and women who are each tipped to win a medal. Winterthur Life wishes them every success in the Olympics.”
