Stephen Whittaker is to pass control of the UK equity portion of the New Star tri-star fund to Edward Collins.
Collins will initially co-manage the equity portion in tandem with Whittaker before taking over sole control later this year.
Collins has run the Dublin-based New Star UK dynamic fund since February 2006. The fund is ranked 20th out of 192 funds in the Morningstar equity UK offshore sector.
The appointment is designed to allow Whittaker to concentrate on his role as joint chief investment officer and manager of its UK growth and UK equity income funds.
Fellow joint chief investment officer Gregor Logan will continue to make the asset allocation calls on the tri-star fund, which blends UK equities, bonds and property.
Whittaker says: “I have worked closely with Edward for a number of years and he has proved to be an excellent fund manager. I believe his considerable talent will benefit the New Star tri-star unit trust and its investors.”
