Consumer champion Which? will offer in-house protection advice to its mortgage customers later this year, Money Marketing can reveal.
Which? Mortgage Advisers’ customers are currently directed to LifeSearch. Which? will begin advising on life and critical-illness cover and income protection, in addition to mortgages, from the autumn. Which? will continue to partner LifeSearch for consumers enquiring about protection through other services, such as the Which? Money Advice helpline. The company says it will keep the channels it uses for protection advice under review.
The body will launch its own protection panel although providers are yet to be confirmed.
A Which? spokeswoman says: “Which? Mortgage Advisers will soon be offering no-obligation protection advice to help people safeguard their mortgage. Our advisers will provide people with jargon-free information and work to find customers the best deal for their needs from all the major providers.”
London & Country sales director Michael Aldridge says: “Which? has been advising on mortgages so it would seem right that they dip their toe into protection.”
