West Brom offers Shariah CTF

West Bromwich Building Society has launched a Shariah-compliant child trust fund in several of its Midlands branches. The Shariah baby bond will be invested in shares listed on the FTSE Global Islamic Index with management of the bond will be supervised by a Sharia advisory board of scholars.

Workers may strike over retirement age

Unions representing 1.5 million local council workers are to ballot for strike action over plans to raise their retirement age from 60 to 65. These workers were excluded from DTI Secretary Alan Johnson’s deal with other public sector workers.
