Wells Street Journal: Old Mutual’s Hood gets the hump

Word reaches the Wells Street Journal that Old Mutual Wealth’s brilliantly named customer director Carlton Hood had a bumpy ride during a recent trip to Africa.

Hood, a former presenter of Channel 4 series ‘Compare Your Life’ and chief executive of, arrived in Timbuktu hoping for a quiet work-based jolly with the usual dose of champagne, overcooked beef and self loathing.

His TV fame had clearly preceded him, however, as Hood was greeted with the kind of lavish ceremony usually reserved for royalty and corrupt Fifa delegates.

“They rolled out the red carpet for him,” a source says. “Carlton had always told us he was famous but I never believed him until this. He’s like a pensions version of Vernon Kay.”

If Hood hadn’t already got the hump after signing autographs and posing for selfies, his hosts ensured he did when they served up a delicious, traditional dish of…camel.

So what was the verdict? “It tasted sandy,” Hood revealed.
