Wells Street Journal: Christening the Baigrie Davies partnership

Cast your mind back to the heady days of the City in the 1980s when lunchbreaks were long and plentiful and the wine flowed freely.

Baigrie Davies co-founders Tom Baigrie and Arthur Davies would often find themselves whiling away the afternoon in a pub or snooker hall, toasting the successes of a morning of client meetings.

As it turns out, the partnership between the two industry heavyweights was christened in true City style. After a particularly long lunch, at a point when the moustachioed one had only been with the business about five months, Baigrie was boring – sorry, enlightening – those around him with a particularly long story.

Davies, keen to shut him up, tipped a glass of champagne over his head. The table was silenced, waiting for an angry retort from ex-Army man Baigrie.

But Baigrie replied as only he could – by tipping another glass of champagne over Davies. And so the foundation for Baigrie Davies was laid.
