Walsh set to take over as Wyles says be grateful worst is over

Lloyds Banking Group managing director of mortgages Colin Walsh has been appointed new chairman of the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

Current chairman Matthew Wyles is due to step down from his role in January, when Walsh will take up the role, pending approval from the CML’s executive committee.

Walsh joined Lloyds TSB in February 2006 and became managing director of mortgages in May this year.

Addressing CML conference delegates in his opening speech, Wyles, who has been in the role for two years, said: “This is my final speech as CML chairman. Has it really been two years that I have been in this role? Much has changed in that time. We no longer stand on the brink of a financial abyss, which is how the world felt when my period of office began. There is much for which we can be grateful.”
