Volatility boosts risk rated fund sales, says Skandia

Market volatility is boosting the sales of risk rated funds as investors focus on investment risk, says Skandia.

Skandia’s range of spectrum funds has taken over £100m in new sales since launching in April this year as investors looking to manage volatility and maintain market exposure turn to risk rated funds.

The firm’s spectrum funds are designed to match the expected volatility of six different investor risk profiles and enable advisers to determine the risk profile of a client and set an appropriate asset allocation.

Skandia head of investment marketing Graham Bentley says: “Volatile markets have taken their toll on investor confidence and, based on recent spectrum sales figures, it seems that risk-rated funds are growing in popularity as investors seek to better manage risk while staying positioned for the inevitable market recovery.

“The spectrum funds have taken over £100m since launch in April, supporting the view that investors are keen to stay in the market if the risk can be controlled.”
