Verdin heads ABI protection strategy committee

Aviva protection director Richard Verdin (pictured) has been appointed chairman of the Association on British Insurers’ protection strategy committee.

He replaces Clive Bolton, who is now annuity business director at Aviva but was in charge of pricing and underwriting of life products including protection.

The committee tackles long-term issues in the protection market. Legal & General holds the chair for the protection development committee which deals with short-term market issues.

Strategy committee members include Bright Grey and Scottish Provident proposition director Roger Edwards, Pru Protect actuarial and product director Deepak Jobanputra and Friends Provident head of protection sales Ed Stuart-Brown. Representatives from Axa, Bupa, LV=, Munich Re, Partnership, Scottish Widows, Swiss Re and Zurich are also on the committee.

Verdin say: “With the RDR, personal accounts and the many challenges within the insurance industry working group’s vision for 2020 there is much that we can and will be doing to lead and support the industry.”

ABI assistant director of health and protection Nick Kirwan says: “I know that Richard will make an extremely positive contribution to driving the protection strategy agenda forward into 2010 and perhaps beyond.”
