VCT aims at UK universities

A group of academics and professional investors is teaming up to launch a venture capital trust, aiming to invest early in technological products developed by four UK universities.

The Venture Technologies Academic Research Partners VCT will invest in Bristol and Southampton universities, University College London and Imperial College, who together spend £450m a year on research.

Chief executive officer Mark Wilsher has been involved in 22 venture capital investments in emerging technologies totalling £37m.

Another senior executive of the team, Roger Ashby, founded Southampton Innovations, an independent commercial development company, wholly owned by the University of Southampton, and was named KPMG Managing Director of Best Innovative Business in 1999.

Zurich offers IFAs home and contents deal

Zurich IFA Group&#39s mortgage network is offering IFAs £100 if they successfully refer a client to Zurich&#39s home and contents insurance service. The mortgage network has also signed a deal with Scotland-based Solicitors Financial Services . The agreement will enable SFS&#39s member solicitors firms to offer clients an automated mortgage service with their own branding.
