US fund firm Pioneer plans move into UK

US fund manager Pioneer Investments is gearing up for a launch into the UK market as part of a global expansion.

Pioneer, which has funds of around £15bn, runs 30 funds in the US and nine Dublin-based Ucits. It is best known in the US for its intermediary business.

It has recruited senior management for its UK launch and is looking for more staff. It has yet to decide whether it will run its UK operations from London or its European headquarters in Dublin.

Launched in 1928, the Boston-based firm is one of the US&#39s oldest fund managers.

US Investment Company Institute (equivalent of Autif) spokesman John Collins says: “Pioneer has been around a very long time and they are well known in the US broker market. While they never rose to be one of the largest players, they have substantial experience.”
