Unum staff take time out to help charities

Unum is supporting the first National Cares Day on June 8 by getting

involved in the event in Surrey around its Dorking headquarters.

Based on a programme which has been running in the US for the past 13

years, National Cares Day, organised by Business in the Community, aims to

encourage businesses to let their staff help local charities, schools and

voluntary organisations.

For the past two years, Unum has held its own Cares Day, with staff at is

Dorking HQ helping with local projects.

Unum says around 200 staff will be painting, decorating and gardening for

organisations such as the Queen Elizabeth Foundation for the Disabled in

Leatherhead.

Unum encourages staff to take two days of paid leave a year to aid good

causes and it is hoping to donate a total of 4,444 hours to charity this

year.
