Unum Provident to restructure as Ring is appointed

Group protection provider Unum Provident has appointed Susan Ring as managing director and chairman.

Ring, formerly operations officer, replaces Lawrence Churchill, who left last November to become chief executive of Zurich FS&#39s UK, Irish and international life businesses.

Ring is to restructure Unum Provident by creating three new divisions.

The customer service division aims to improve operational efficiency and the use of technology in the sales process. It will be headed by former management services director Andrew Stacy, who becomes division chief operating officer.

The customer care division will deal with benefits, medical and rehabilitation services, job retention and return-to-work solutions for claimants. Former chief medical officer Peter Dewis becomes the new director of customer care.

Cheryl Stewart becomes head of customer solutions and will aim to expand the company&#39s distribution and marketing capacity.

Ring says: “It is now time for the next phase of our development, focusing on the strength of our core markets as well as organic and non-organic growth.

“Unum Provident&#39s new organisational structure aligns its core business more closely with the needs of the customer.”
