UK economy grows in third quarter

The UK economy grew by 0.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2001, up from 0.4 per cent for the previous quarter, and giving an annual growth rate of 2.2 per cent.

The figures, from the office for National Statistics, include the period covering the attacks on the US, and are likely to support those calling for cuts in interest rates to be resisted.
