TUC declares pension victory

The TUC has declared victory ahead of the publication of todays pensions White Paper calling it the best opportunity to forge a new consensus the UK is ever likely to get.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber says all three of the TUCs campaign priorities look likely to be addressed- index linking the state pension to earnings, compulsory employer contributions and urgent help for women.
He says the Government has handled the debate sensibly with genuine consultation and well-informed debate.
Barber says: I am optimistic that the thrust of this White Paper will represent a victory for union and progressive campaigning. It looks set to be this Governments third term historic achievement.
