TSC launches international inquiry into banking crisis

The Treasury Select Committee has launched an inquiry into the international dimension of the banking crisis.

The TSC is looking into potential reforms to the international financial regulatory system particularly regarding areas of improvement in European regulation including the de Larosière Report, passporting and deposit protection.

It will be looking at global cross-border financial regulation and the creation of colleges of supervisors.

It will also be looking at potential reforms to the international monetary system, particularly with regard to the need for a new global reserve currency and the management of global imbalances.

The TSC will also be accepting further evidence on offshore financial centres in relation to the above topics.
