Tributes for stabbed L&G director

Tributes have been paid to Legal & General investment managing director John Monckton who was stabbed to death in his home on Monday.

Monckton, 49, died in hospital and his wife Homeyra is in a stable condition after being attacked by two men in their West London home at 7.30pm.

Monckton was a familiar face at L&G’s regular Fundamentals briefings on the state of the investment market and his opinions were quoted frequently.

He was managing director (bonds) and had overall responsibility for investment strategy. Before joining L&G in 1996, he was a director at Barclays de Zoete Wedd and Foreign & Colonial.

L&G group director Tim Breedon says: “John will be missed greatly by all his colleagues. He had a deep insight into the financial markets.

“He had a great intellect and was a man of the utmost integrity and kindness. I will miss his support, his integrity and his dry wit.”
