Trevor Matthews takes over as Aviva UK CEO

Trevor Matthews is to replace Mark Hodges as Aviva UK chief executive.

Hodges resigned from the firm to join Towergate Insurance as group chief executive.

Matthews is currently vice chairman of Friends Life and was previously chief executive of Friends Provident Holdings UK.

Aviva says Matthews will take up the role as soon as possible and by the end of 2011 at the very latest.

Aviva group chief executive Andrew Moss says: “After a successful career at Aviva I am very sorry to see Mark leave, but we understand that he wishes to take on a different challenge at this stage of his career.

Trevor Matthews says: “It is a privilege to join Andrew Moss and the Aviva leadership team. Over the coming years I am confident that Aviva UK will continue to strengthen its position as the country’s undisputed leader in insurance.”

David Barral and David McMillan will remain Aviva UK Life chief executive and chief executive UK General Insurance respectively.

  1. I don’t envy his task ahead. The first job would be to get some decent, local reresentation which is non existant now I could go on but my working day is too short.

  3. Aviva – in my experience, possibly the worst service standards of any life company. So who cares !

    Another round of golden goodbyes and golden hellos for those lucky enough to be ‘in the loop’.

    Clearly you’ve had no dealings with Aegon then!

    A couple of years ago, most people would have agreed that the level of service provided by Aviva was very poor.

    However, since then, I don’t think anyone can deny that they have come on leaps and bounds.

    The service we currently receive from Aviva is superior to the vast majority of providers.

    However there will always be the few vocal dinosaurs that are unable to accept change and remain stuck in their ways and opinions.

    No doubt you’re one of the few still whinging about RDR…

  6. For what it is worth, my personal experience of Aviva stinks. They lied and misled me and despite admitting they were wrong, still charged me thousand of pounds.

  7. Another round of half truths and empty promises for the embattled staff at Aviva then.

    Ask any of the ex Friends Prov staff who were promised the Resolution deal was a great way to move towards mass market new business, only to find it led to redundancies, decimation of product lines and a virtual take over by AXA- Thanks Trev!

  8. I would not touch Aviva with a barge pole. They took my money for near on 14 years before I unfortunately had to make a claim on my payment protection insurance. I was treated like some no good scrounger and the rules on claiming had been changed to make it almost impossible to claim. When I challeged these rules as having no resemblence to the T&Cs supplied at the time of taking out the policy I was told my booklet was out of date and the rules had been changed. This was without informing me but still taking my money !!! My advice is stay clear, don’t throw your money away !!
