Tories would simplify Isas

The Institute of Directors believes the Government must make Isas simpler if it wants to motivate more people to save.

At a fringe meeting at the conference, deputy head of the policy unit Richard Baron said the Government and any future Conservative administration must simplify the Isa rules.

Tory Treasury spokesman Howard Flight said a future Tory Government would “simplify them and make them more adequately generous”.

But Flight refused to go into any detail about changes the Tories would make although he hinted strongly that they would raise the investment ceiling and change the rules dictating how much can be invested within each component.

Baron said: “Keep it really easy, just give people a limit and let them decide how they break it up.”

A Treasury spokesman says: “We are conducting a review of the operation of Isas. We will be publishing the findings shortly.

“The initial findings suggest Isas have been popular and successful under their current format.”
