Tomlins leaves Cazenove to join M&G fixed-income team

M&G Investments has recruited James Tomlins from Cazenove as a fixed-income manager.

Tomlins, who joins on June 20, has been deputy fund manager of Cazenove’s strategic bond fund. The fund has risen by 25.4 per cent in the last three years compared with a 19.1 per cent rise in its IMA sterling strat- egic bond fund, according to Financial Express.

He will work on European credit alongside fund managers Stefan Isaacs and Richard Woolnough, as part of the retail fixed income investment team.

Tomlins previously worked for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, now Blackrock, and KBC Alternative Investment Management before joining Cazenove.

Bestinvest senior investment adviser Adrian Lowcock says: “From James’s point of view, he is joining M&G, which is one of the most reputable bond teams in the UK at present. Joining Richard Woolnough and Stefan Isaacs is a great opportunity for him.

“There is a big team there and a lot of funds available. You would think, being a deputy manager at Cazenove, his next step would be looking for a lead manager position.”

The investment clock

While Trump blazes blond in the political foreground, it’s easy to overlook the economic background to the new political dimension of 2017. Political risk will be a feature of the year: the unpredictable and untested Trump administration has already created uncertainty, which is unlikely to diminish, especially if protectionist rhetoric starts to outweigh promises of […]
