What was supposed to be one of the highlights of the year ended with a lonely night in a West Country hotel for Cazenove’s Robin Minter-Kemp.Robin had arranged to meet other anglers for a dinner but, running late, rang to confirm the venue. “The Flyfisherman’s Club in Brook Street, near the American Embassy?” he asked. “Yup,” said organiser Mark Dampier of Hargreaves Lansdown. Only an hour later, Robin had still not turned up. He calls again.”I can’t find the club or the American Embassy,” he despaired. “Where are you?” asked Dampier. “Bristol,” replies Minter-Kemp. After the laughter died down, Minter-Kemp pledged to make the 8pm train back to London and be at the club for 10pm. But to confound his problems, bad weather meant the trains were cancelled, leaving Minter-Kemp stranded in Bristol with only humble pie to eat.
