The pension picture

The Money Marketing Live conference and exhibition at Manchester’s G-Mex on October 30 focuses on the pension issues, with contributions from 50 speakers and 85 exhibitors. Key industry figures will speak in the Money Marketing Pensions Arena and you could win a Mazda MX-5

Next month’s Money Marketing Live Manchester conference and exhib-ition will once again give pension advisers the oppor-tunity to hear from experts on the latest developments.

Taking place at Manchester Central (G-Mex) on Tuesday, October 30, the event will include seminars dedicated to pension issues and an exhibition of leading product and services providers.

An industry panel debate will be a key feature of the conference and will identify what effect pension simplification has had on the intermediary’s role.

The debate will be chaired by Aifa director general Chris Cummings and panellists will include Association
of British Insurers head of pensions and savings development Helen McCarthy, Legal & General pension strategy director Adrian Boulding, Intelligent Pensions managing director Steve Patterson and Aegon Scottish Equitable head of pensions development Rachel Vahey.

In the Money Marketing Pensions Arena, key figures from leading pension firms will also give presentations.

Speakers will include Suffolk Life sales and marketing director John Moret and Legal & General senior technical manager John Gleadall, who will take a look at the future opportunities for advisers in the pension space. Hornbuckle Mitchell managing director Neil Marsh will also discuss Sipp and SSAS strategies.

In a world where people are living longer in retirement, Living Time chief executive Kim Lerche-Thomsen will look at the emerging middle market.

Lerche-Thomsen says: “Now is an important time for intermediaries to learn about the middle market. There is a growing need for a real alternative to inflexible lifetime annuities that can lock in clients for 20 years
or more and the volatility of investment risk exposure that comes with conventional income drawdown. The middle market offers intermediaries the opportunity to manage their clients’ investment pots through retirement rather than just ‘at’ retirement, as would be the case if they chose a traditional life-time annuity.”

With training sessions and workshops, Money Marketing Live will feature over 50 key industry speakers in total and over 85 exhibitors from across financial services. To find out more about the Money Marketing Pensions Arena and how

Auto-enrolment: pay attention or pay the price

By Simon Fletcher

As a chief executive officer of a business in the financial services sector, I have been dealing with the introduction of auto-enrolment for our clients for some time, but I can also speak from an employer’s point of view, having to go through the process ourselves.
