Talkback

Is this year’s Budget good for your clients?

“No. It is an election Budget, perhaps even bland. It is a Budget for the retired and is pretty neutral for the majority of our clients.”

David Brigham,Brigham Brining & Co”No. It has hardly made any difference at all, I cannot see it having any impact on our clients. With regard to stamp duty, it certainly does not offer the kind of relief it could have.”

Peter Williams,Williams Broadley”No. It is doing nothing for my clients. Even the IHT changes will be absorbed by rising house prices – they are a waste of time.”

Graham Goodwin,Cherry Financial”No. We are all going to vote Conservative at my firm. Unless you are 60plus it makes very little difference – they will be looking forward to getting their 200 back and free bus travel.”

Ross Savage,HJP Financial Services”Yes, the changes to stamp duty will encourage a lot of first-time buyers into the market and I am pleased the maxi-Isa allowance has been extended.”

Norman Stanley Quigg, Stanley Quigg Financial Services”Yes, partially. The increase in stamp duty is good but the increase in the IHT threshold is nowhere near enough and barely scratches the surface given recent house price growth.”

Ian Towers,Kerr Thomson Associates”No. It did nothing to help my clients apart from pensioners who got a few extra benefits. The rise in the stamp duty threshold did not go far enough as you will not find a decent property for less than 120,000.”
