Swiss Life set for global assault

Ex-Zurich International Life chief executive for the Middle East and Africa Carlos Sabug-ueiro has joined insurer Swiss Life to head the firm’s new international venture.

Swiss Life confirmed that Sabugueiro had joined the company on June 9 but would not disclose further details.

Sabugueiro took on the newly created Middle East and Africa CEO position at ZIL in late 2008, based in Dubai but he quit the role after just over a year. He had previously spent seven years in Asia, where he was ZIL’s regional director for the Far East.

Sabugueiro will be based in Swiss Life’s Dubai office.

AES International managing director Sam Instone says Swiss Life does not currently have a well established international position and Sabugueiro’s move may be designed to help the group launch an assault on the global distribution marketplace.
