Stylish strategy for Chase Fleming

Chase Fleming Asset Management has added the FF-US strategic growth fund to its range of style funds.

Style funds work by recognising that all stocks are different, even though they might be in the same sector. The FF-US strategic growth fund is a Luxemburg-based Sicav that applies this principal to growth stocks, meaning the fund manager selects stocks that show the most growth potential and disregards those that do not.

The US stocks chosen cut across sectors, which gives the fund some degree of diversity. However, 45 per cent of the portfolio is invested in information technology, which can be quite volatile. On the positive side, technology is a major growth area which can only progress even further at a rapid pace.

The fund is more specialist than a general US equities fund and therefore has increased risks. It is likely to appeal to quite wealthy clients who are prepared to take a gamble in a volatile market or those who have a UK portfolio and want to widen its scope geographically.

According to Standard & Poor&#39s, the Fleming US technology fund is ranked 6th out of 15 funds based on £1,000 invested on a bid-to-bid basis with gross income reinvested over three years to November 1, 2000.
