Strength is surveyed

The financial strength of some of the UK&#39s biggest life offices has fallen over the last year, according to the Money Marketing Focus Financial Strength update.

The free-asset ratios of seven out of 38 companies have dropped. The seven are: Britannic, CGU Life, Royal Liver, Scottish Friendly, Sun Life of Canada, Sun Life and Teachers Provident.

Companies showing FAR rises include Eagle Star, Norwich Union, Legal & General and Scottish Provident.

High FARs are seen as important for IFAs when investing in with-profits funds.

Informed Choice managing director Nick Bamford says: “A financially strong company can invest more of its customers&#39 money in equities. Over the long term, it is the equity content of with profits funds which supports a robust policy.”

Copies of the survey are available on 020 7292 3730.
