Stanic quits Newton for River & Mercantile

Alex Stanic, Newton’s global opportunities fund manager has resigned from the firm and is to join River & Mercantile as a partner and head of global equities.

Stanic has been with Newton since 1999 and runs the BNY Mellon global equity fund which he launched in 2005. He also heads up the firm’s global intrepid fund.

R&M was founded in 2006 and has raised assets in excess of £1bn in the first 24 months of trading.

The firm has highlighted the global equities division as the next stage of its development and intends to develop a range of strategies consistent with the River and Mercantile global equity investment philosophy and process.

R&M’s chief executive James Barham says: “We are very excited that Alex has agreed to join R&M with the specific task of developing our Global Equities Division. He is an exceptional manager with an outstanding long term track record in managing global assets.”

Stanic adds: “This is a hugely exciting venture and I am thrilled to be joining R&M at such an important stage in its development. The opportunity to develop a new global equities division for R&M is a fantastic proposition.”
