Standard sets art challenge for advisers

Standard Life is offering advisers the chance to commission their own piece of art from a budding young artist.

The firm is sponsoring BraveArt 06, a showcase for Scottish student artists to be held at the Atlantis Gallery, Brick Lane, London, on September 21-24.

The winning entrant, chosen at random, will be given 1,500 to commission an artist of their choice from BraveArt 06 to produce a piece of art for them. Works on display will include paintings, sculptures, photography and video installations.

Over 20 graduates from four Scottish art schools have been selected to show their work as part of BraveArt 2006, a project that allowsStudents to showcase their degree show work at this public exhibition.

The participating schools this year are the Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art, Duncan Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee and Grays’ School of Art in Aberdeen.

The selection panel that whittled down the short list this year included Mariska Nietzman from the Lisson Gallery, Toby Clarke from the Fine Arts Society and freelance art critic Gabriel Coxhead.

To win your own original artwork, answer this question: What month in 2006 did Standard Life float on the London Stock Exchange?
