Crombie has worked at Standard Life for 42 years and is also a director of the Association of British Insurers, a member of the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s High Level Group and sits on the Insurance Industry Working Group.
Crombie says: “I’m obviously delighted and very proud to have received this honour. However, I cannot accept this recognition without paying tribute to my family for their support, and to everyone at Standard Life who has contributed to the company’s success.”
City figures, who usually feature strongly on the list, were largely absent this year.
Press reports say the Queen felt it “inappropriate” to honour those in the finance industry due to the economic crisis.
