SOBS says Halifax takeover means &#39slash and burn&#39 redundancies

Save Our Building Societies is calling for job-protection guarantees for Birmingham Midshires&#39 employees ahead of the society&#39s proposed £750m merger with Halifax.


The pressure group is urging Birmingham Midshires members to push for a 10-year safeguard for jobs and branches. Halifax says it &#34intends to avoid compulsory redundancies&#34.


Sobs coordinator Bob Goodall says: &#34The Halifax will slash and burn. They have only promised no compulsory redundancies for three years.&#34


Members finished voting on Tuesday and an EGM is to be held this Friday.

Premier Asset Management posts £1.1m profit

Premier Asset Management has recorded pre-tax profits of £1.1m and earnings per share of 1.31p for the year ended September 30.Its funds under management increased to £296m from £250m in 1997.It says that it has successfully launched its Premier Protected Assets Fund.
