Smith rejects CBI call on retirement age

Work and pension secretary of state Andrew Smith has rejected the Confederation of British Industry&#39s call for a raising of the state pension age to 70 by 2030.

The CBI is proposing a state retirement age of 70 to allow means testing to be abolished by paying a state pension equivalent to the pension credit, but Smith says the plan would be unfair on women whose retirement age is rising from 60 to 65 by 2010.
