Smee voted top personality

Aifa director general Paul Smee proved he has won the respect of the IFA community as he was named Industry Personality of the Year at last week&#39s prestigious Money Marketing Awards.

Smee edged out life insurance analyst Ned Cazalet, Aegon&#39s Stewart Ritchie, Scottish Life&#39s Steve Bee and Ron Sandler to win the award, voted for by IFAs.

The awards, dubbed the industry&#39s Oscars, were hosted by comedian Bob Monkhouse at Grosvenor House in London. They saw Millfield Partnership voted as IFA of the year, pipping Momentum and Chase de Vere Investments, which finished second and third respectively.

Standard Life was once again voted as IFAs&#39 company of the year, ahead of Norwich Union and Skandia.

Best investment IFA was Chase de Vere while Surrey-based Wentworth Rose was best pension IFA. Momentum was named best corporate IFA while Positive Solutions walked away with the best protection and technology IFA awards.

Hamptons International Mortgages was named best mortgage IFA while Advisory & Brokerage Services won the IFA professional development award.

Smee says: “I am pleased for myself and the team at Aifa. It gives us all heart as we approach yet another year of reviews.”

Millfield Partnership chief executive Paul Tebbutt says: “This award is a reflection not only of our commitment to building the business into the top IFA in the country but our commitment to the development of our advisers.”

Later this month, Money Marketing will be publishing a detailed supplement analysing the winners.
