Skipton BS appoints Mike Ellis as chairman

Skipton Building Society has appointed Mike Ellis as its new chairman.

He replaces Alastair Findlay who has stepped down from the board having served five years as a non-executive director.

Ellis is currently a non-executive director and chairman of the audit committee of WH Smith and has held many roles within Halifax. He was awarded an OBE in 2007 for his contribution to financial services.

Ellis says: “Skipton is a leading and progressive building society with a uniquely diversified Group model, and I am looking forward to working with the Board and senior team as they prepare to grasp the opportunities for mutuals in the years ahead.”

  1. Did his OBE for contribution to Financial services include his time as HBOS Finance Director just before it had to be taken over by Lloyds with the resulting 20000+ job losses? I suppose we should be grateful he didn’t get a knighthood otherwise we wouldn’t be able to name him
