Skipton and Newcastle building societies deny takeover talks

Skipton and Newcastle building societies have both denied reports that they are in talks over a potential takeover deal.

The Mail on Sunday reported that Skipton could be poised to takeover Newcastle to create a £21bn mutual with more than a million members.

But spokespeople from both building societies say “there is no substance to the reports”.
