Of the 226 CI claims 11 per cent were declined due to definition not being met. No claims were declined due to non-disclosure.
Average claim paid was £106,442, with cancer being the most common claim, accounting for 53 per cent of claims.
Skandia protection marketing manager Ian Brown says: “No-one could ever hope that one day they will have to make a critical illness claim, but when it does happen we want to make sure that the process is as smooth as possible and that people receive the financial support they need.
“Skandia has put a great deal of effort into enhancing the overall cover available to better protect our policy holders. We’ve also concentrated on ensuring that our application forms are clear and user friendly in order to successfully reduce the number of claims not paid for non-disclosure. These results show that those steps are working.”
