Skandia extending Cowes sponsorship

Skandia is extending its sponsorship of Cowes Week through to 2005 and injecting £1.5m into the event.

The annual yachting regatta has been sponsored by Skandia for the last eight years.

Last year, a record number of 7,000 craft raced, making Skandia Life Cowes Week the second-biggest sporting event in the UK after the London marathon.

The official charity for SLCW 2002 is the Cowes Inshore Lifeboat.

The cash from Skandia will help to pay for improving the infrastructure of Cowes as a yachting centre.

Marketing director Andre Ozmann says: “We are delighted to maintain title sponsorship of this high-performance event. Skandia Life Cowes Week embodies our corporate brand values of passion, courage, creativity, commitment and contribution.

“The consistency of our investment in terms of effort as well as finance gives us a unique opportunity to evolve the event still further. We will continue to strive to bring these values to what we believe is the best sailing regatta in the world.”
