Shame on Liddell

It must be gratifying for Helen Liddell to embark on a campaign of naming and shaming practitioners (both big and small) in the financial services industry.

She seems to have forgotten the important role the industry has played in sustaining the well-being of the nation through the creation of wealth where none existed.

The financial services industry should be commended for the role it has played to date in relieving the Government of some of its social responsibilities.

Where the Government has failed, the financial services industry has excelled.

Much as she may take great pride in naming and shaming the culprits in the industry, she should also be proud to name and praise at every opportunity those who have no pension misselling cases.

It is about time that the entire industry puts aside its various differences in status and speaks with one voice.

We do not seem to appreciate that there is enormous clout which the industry can use to make the Government listen to its view.

After all, where would the Government source the funds to finance every property purchase and every family whenever the breadwinner dies? We also know, in advance, that the much trumpeted Individual Savings Account will be another disaster.
