Shadow pensions minister arrested after allegedly assaulting his children

Shadow minister for work and pensions Nigel Waterson was arrested after allegedly assaulting his teenage son and daughter.

The MP for Eastbourne was detained by the Metropolitan police in Bromley, Kent, just before midnight on Sunday. Waterson is believed to have been held in custody overnight and released on bail yesterday morning.

A police spokesman said a 58-year-old man was released on police bail to return to a south London police station in early March pending further enquiries. He stressed the allegations were not of a sexual nature.
