Richard Jacobs Pension & Trustees Services managing director Richard Jacobs believes service will be affected as a result of staff cuts in the IT and business development departments.
He also questions the timing of the firm’s name change from Norwich Union, which is accompanied by a large-scale marketing campaign involving celebrities such as Bruce Willis.
Jacobs says: “Everybody is asking, in the current climate, what are they doing spending this money on the name change campaign? Now they are getting rid of jobs, which means, no matter what they say, service will be affected. It is disgraceful and I have been surprised by how many of my clients have mentioned it.”
Aviva says it is making the redundancies because it has simplified operations and boosted efficiency. A total of 1,100 permanent roles will be cut by the end of 2009 and 590 contract positions.
An Aviva spokeswoman says: “We are making redundancies because we have simplified our IT systems and the roles are no longer required. There should be no impact on service at all.”
