ScotMut service has hedge fund link

Scottish Mutual is teaming up with specialist fund manager Bucephale Group to launch a pension investment service with exposure to hedge funds.

The Guaranteed Pension Investment offers trustees of all UK pension funds the ability to participate in a managed fund of hedge funds while offering full capital return at the end of the investment term.

Scottish Mutual is targeting trustees of small self-administered schemes and self-invested personal pensions.

Geneva-based Bucephale was set up six years ago and has around £320m in funds under management. It hopes to open offices in London, Milan and New York. Buce-phale will manage the fund for Abbey National Treasury Services.

The Bureaux director Ronnie Lymburn says: “There is too much bad publicity surrounding hedge funds fuelled by ignorance. It is quite clever to include this as part of an investment strategy. Pension trustees have been criticised for paying for but not getting active management. With this service, you will definitely get active management which could be attractive to a lot of pension trustees.”
