ScotLife fights endowments corner

Widely attacked endowment mortgages are being given a second chance by Scottish Life.

According to its new IFA guide on endowments, advisers need to take a “balanced” view and cut through the “hysteria” surrounding the controversial policies.

The booklet contains facts and figures for IFAs deciding whether an endowment is best for their clients.

Last month the FSA said it would not launch a major investigation into endowment misbuying even though it admitted thousands must now top up payments to keep their returns on track.

Scottish Life marketing manager Alasdair Buchanan says: “Endowment mortgages have taken a great deal of criticism, much of it totally unnecessary. But despite this, the simple fact remains that when the circumstances are right, an endowment mortgage is right.”
