ScotEq gets to boot of the protection problem

Scottish Equitable Employee Benefits is promoting the “common-sense protection” offering on its employee protection menu with a pair of wellington boots.

The £150,000 trade press campaign uses images of employees in everyday scenes to emphasise the importance of protection products.

ScotEq estimates that as many as four in five households own a pair of wellies compared with fewer than one in five employees who have protection benefits offered by their employers.

But ScotEq claims the cost of protection is lower than the price of wellies. It says an average employer based in the South could offer a full range of benefits for as little as £37 per employee.

The employee protection menu, launched by ScotEq in November 1999, is a group risk benefit package aimed at employers with between 50 and 500 workers. It operates as a self-select menu of benefits. Combinations of income protection cover, critical-illness cover, life cover and spouse and partner life cover are all available at fixed cost.

ScotEq says sales have gone up by 600 per cent over the last year.

Marketing communications manager Alison Ritchie says: “Everyone knows the benefits of wellies but how many employers apply the same common sense to providing their employees and their families with critical illness or income protection cover?

“Companies of all sizes are recognising that such benefits are a key part of attracting and retaining key employees while affording valuable common sense protection. It is important to recognise that, in today&#39s market, flexibility is key – one size does not fit all.”
