Cazenove has a very good UK team, with Paul Marriage on the small cap fund and Julie Dean with the UK Opps fund the two standouts. In addition, it has Chris Rice in Europe, Peter Harvey in bonds and a decent multi manager/asset team. If Schroders can retain the fund managers this will have been a very good week for it.
Aberdeen Asset Management co-head of multi-manager Aidan Kearney:
From a wealth manager perspective you can see the synergies and sense in bringing the two offerings together. There are lots of synergies to be gained but there are contrasting processes particularly in Europe and the UK small cap space. I don’t think there will be too many fund manager departures but there is always some change when deals like this happen.
Chelsea Financial Services managing director Darius McDermott:
The most important consideration with these big corporate changes is the fund managers who are running our clients’ money. So our main concern is that the fund managers on our buy-list, which are Julie Dean, Paul Marriage and John Warren, are happy with the transition and we have been assured by both companies that this is the case.
