Schroder goes west for value in US funds

Schroder has introduced the US active value fund.

The fund is aimed at investors who want to add American stocks to their portfolio and who are looking for growth.

US active value is a unit trust that will benchmark the Salomon Smith Barney broad market US value index. This includes companies that the market thinks are currently undervalued. Some of the companies listed in the index include Exxon Mobil, Wells Fargo, Texas Instruments, Philip Morris and PepsiCo.

The fund increases the number of Schroder unit trusts that invest in the US to a total of five. The others are Schroder American, Schroder US small companies, Schroder institutional US smaller companies and Schroder US dynamic growth.

The fact that there is still no clear winner of the US presidential election has lead to a great deal of volatility in the American market, with stockmarkets falling as the two candidates wait for the results of the Florida recount.

Over a three-year period the Salomon Smith Barney broad market US value index rose from 240.41 points on October 31, 1997 to 320.89 points on October 31, 2000.
