Sajid Javid promoted to Culture Secretary in Treasury shake-up

Treasury financial secretary Sajid Javid has been promoted to Cabinet as Culture Secretary after Maria Miller resigned this morning.

Prime Minister David Cameron was forced into a reshuffle after former Culture Secretary Miller quit after over-claiming on her expenses.

Economic secretary Nicky Morgan will replace Javid as Treasury financial secretary and will attend Cabinet as minister for women.

Conservative MP for Loughborough Morgan joined the Government last October after being elected to parliament in 2010.

She becomes the Government’s fourth Treasury financial secretary after Mark Hoban, Greg Clark and Javid.

Treasury select committee member Andrea Leadsom will replace Morgan as economic secretary.

It means the select committee will have an election for a Conservative MP.
