Saga director general Ros Altmann quits

Saga director general Ros Altmann has quit after two and a half years in the role.

Altmann says she has decided to leave the firm in order to spend more time in London.

She says: “I am stepping down as director general of Saga as I would like to spend more time in London.

“I have enjoyed working with Saga for the past two and a half years, especially on new research and thought leadership initiatives, as well as engaging on policy issues in areas including finance, retirement, lifestyle and social care. I wish them well for the future.”

Altmann is one of the most prominent spokespeople in the pensions industry.

After joining Saga in October 2010, she led a successful campaign to delay increasing the state pension age due to concern about the impact the original plans would have had on women in their 50s.

In January 2011, Altmann was forced to defend Saga’s single-tie annuity deal with Legal & General. The company was criticised for retaining the agreement while also publicly backing shopping around at retirement.
