Royal Liver boosts CI offering

Online protection provider Progress is boosting its critical illness offering by enhancing its product to include 40 illnesses.

From Monday Progress, the online protection arm of the Royal Liver Group, will increase the number of illnesses covered to 40, extend the scope of cover for a number of definitions and reshuffle its pricing structure.

Illnesses covered will now include nine new conditions, including open-heart surgery, pulmonary artery surgery, encephalitis and rheumatoid arthritis, both acute and severe. Third degree burns now covers 20 per cent of face instead of 50 per cent, the 96-hour time frame and alcohol and drug exclusions will be removed from the definition of coma, and heart-attack victims will not have had to experience chest pains before the accident to claim.

From October 6 no standard exclusions will apply, children will be covered for all conditions and free cover is included prior to the start date on policies that are tied up into a mortgage below £350,000.

Progress head of protection products Stephen Edwards says: “We now cover every condition available in the market which we consider critical. The improvements add real value in terms of paying extra claims. Whilst the rarer conditions night already be covered under total permanent disability, we decided to include them as separate conditions to provide clarity and confidence that they are covered.”
